The Hangover

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

“It’s got, ah, Ted Danson and Magnum P.I. and that Jewish actor…”

It seemed like a throwaway statement when I saw it in The Hangover last week, and there was delayed laughter as it took me about 10 seconds to work out what Zach Galifianakis’ character was talking about. Then it clicked!! I nearly died.

Speaking of hangovers, there’s no better cure for a hangover than the 3,000 year-old Scottish remedy – a bottle of Irn Bru and a Greggs‘ sausage roll (pictured).

Recently I’ve been getting into Miike Snow. I could swear it’s the singer from Passion Pit on a couple of tracks. That’s who they sound like most actually. You could take the best songs from ‘Manners’ and add them to the best tracks ‘Miike Snow’ have to offer and you’d have a pretty awesome debut album from Passion Snow… or Miike Pit. I haven’t really decided.

It’s quite good sometimes how remixers take shite songs and make them good. Just heard this Burns remix of White Lies‘ ‘Death’ over at LAFriendly. It’s not got quite the tyrannosaurus firestorm wamp that the Crystal Castles remix seems to muster from nowhere, but tis still a fine doodle.

Heard sayCet from OhhCrapp a while back when he/she/they did this Panda Bear remix. Loved it then and I love it now. Also just heard this sayCet original. Makes me want to turn out all the lights and hibernate.

What happened to Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS)?? They’re a fucking delightful wee band. Absolutely storming live. Saw them at T in the Park one year (can’t remember which). Lovefoxxx is stunning. I’d walk over hot koalas to get that bitch.

“I got your shirt and I’m so not sure
are you coming back for it or should I expect the worse?
- well you can keep it
- I’m thinking
- don’t think too much
- should I call?
- you got my numbers
- I’m thinking”

“She screamed so loud
Until she was laughing
Well now there’s no more reasons for her to cry
It was so late, it was 4 AM”

I’ve had this song (Alohomora by Pogo) on my MP3 player for a couple of days now and it’s really growing on me. I remember I got it on a mixtape a while back. Pogo is a 19 year old Australian and he basically chops up vocal snippets from Disney/childrens movies and plugs them into very chilled ambient electronica/drum & bass.

After looking him up I remember I saw this on Digg a while back. Veeeeerrrryyy Trrriiippyyyyy

I’m at that stage with La Roux‘s catchy-as-fuck song ‘Bulletproof’ where I’m totally in love with it. I’ve not heard it too much. But at the same time I’ve not heard it enough. In some pictures I quite fancy her too.

What actually triggered this post in the first place though was when I listened to the Just A Band remix. Christ it has everything I want from a remix. Starts off familiar then just totally smashes you over the head with a dirty great fucking tyrannosaurus beat! Kinda reminds me of the Boys Noize remix of Happy Up Here actually. Anyway, this remix has just shot into my top 10 of the year so far. High praise indeed!! Do you agree?

Got this Busy P remix from Too Many Sebastians earlier. Have to say that blog is amazing. If you haven’t already – check it out. Everything they post is my kind of music. Makes me jealous actually hahaha!

God I hope these guys come touring my way soon! I just want to throw a brick when I hear remixes like this. What was it that the sticker on Kurt Cobain’s guitar said?

Dead Boy Robotics

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
Dead Boy Robotics are an Edinburgh-based band and they sound “kind of like The Mae Shi and Crystal Castles mixed in to a dirty electro mess.” – An Emergency (Band Blog). I’d say that’s quite an accurate description of the industrial sauce that these guys churn out. They were also just announced to be playing the T-Break stage at T in the Park this year. Well done lads!
