Downright filthySoulwax remix x original ÷ track from new-to-my-ears Throwing Snow featured on Subeena’s Fact Magazine Mix 117 = come-up and come-down all in one blog post! I think my photo is also a good visual representation of this dichotomy. Fuck off me.
*UPDATE* This came in the ol’ mailbox ( : legends.
So little time to do anything these days. Like I don’t even have time to think. I feel like butter being scraped across too much bread*. Time management – that’s my problem.
Anyway (whine over!), the 4 tracks I have selected for you today are all excellent. First up, a little 1min30sec gem from Waajeed that I can’t remember how I found. Next is Motown songwriting legend Lamont Dozier and the epic 10-min version of his funky classic “Going Back To My Roots”. Finally, I’d like to introduce you to Pedestrian…. a word his music is definitely not! Currently based in Cambridge, UK he makes gorgeous ambient electronica and was recently featured on Gilles Peterson’s radio 1 show. Without doubt one to watch. Now if we could only get Pedestrian and Gang Colours to collaborate…
Lastly, but by no means leastly, friend of the blog number two, LS Mitchell, has created a fantasticly professional wee 40-min mix that he sent this way. Seriously, this mix sounds like an ace night out at the Cabaret Voltaire for me! I’d be winding down to bed usually by now but this mix has me doing the feet-tap, head-bob skank!
I must have played this Polymath remix of Beataucue about 10 times in the past hour….. if that’s even possible! Featured the Inverness-based Polymath a couple of times now and this is the moment you should sit up and take notice. This excellent remix is taken from Beataucue’s brand new EP “Cha Cha Cha” out now on Kitsune records.
GangColours is the brainchild of this man. You don’t need to know his real name – it’s not important. All you need to know is that he makes sublime music that has the cinematic scope of Joy Orbison coupled with the playfulness of Flying Lotus with a dash of Floating Points and you may be getting there – at least that’s how it sounds to me.
His track ‘No Clear Reason’ was played on Gilles Peterson‘s radio show recently and I just had to tell you about it – it will hopefully be getting a release in the near future. Watch this space, or his space!
The internet is a fast moving beast, so the streaming MP3s that are posted may not work after a while due to them being taken down. And since I can't be arsed uploading them all again it's tough shite. I'll always post a link to a downloadable MP3 though. As always, if you like what you hear - away and buy it eh!
p.s. if I've put up a song you'd rather not see here then let me know, you can email me here
