So we’re just entering the last week of the Edinburgh Festival and I’ve had a delightful time – whether it’s soaking up sunbeams in the Spiegel Garden (see my pic below) or seeing hilarious comedy acts (Seann Walsh, Obama Mia!, Eleanor the Tour Whore) at various venues including the now-infamous Udderbelly Pasture (a massive upside-down purple cow). I’m also writing up my 1st-year PhD report and it’s hellish – I’m off to work on it now actually – but I’ll leave you with these thrillingly effortless tracks by Andras Fox & Sui Zhen, Pitchfork-featured Tropics, Gilles Peterson-featured Ogris Debris and George Fitzgerald. Been meaning to post about Big Boi for a while because the more I hear Shutterbug the more I think it’s a fecking groundbreaking sound! He also pops up on Janelle Monáe‘s sassy ‘Tightrope’. Grum‘s album has also been getting a lot of plays on my iPod recently and I’ve attached the splendidly-soporific standout ‘Want U’ so check it oot! I’ve sandwhiched these 3 gems with 2 tracks I heard on TV (well…I say TV…I really mean what I’ve torrented) one of which was the M.I.A. track ‘Space’ which was featured at the end of the latest Entourage right when Vince jumps out the plane; the second of which (is actually the first track here) is the best song I’ve heard used on a TV show and was featured on True Blood when Bill goes to the strip club and Massive Attack‘s ‘Paradise Circus’ is playing while he’s watching a Miley Cyrus-look-a-like work the pole. The hand-claps are key. Absolute prize of a track.

So little time to do anything these days. Like I don’t even have time to think. I feel like butter being scraped across too much bread*. Time management – that’s my problem.

Next is Motown songwriting legend Lamont Dozier and the epic 10-min version of his funky classic “Going Back To My Roots”. Finally, I’d like to introduce you to Pedestrian…. a word his music is definitely not! Currently based in Cambridge, UK he makes gorgeous ambient electronica and was recently featured on Gilles Peterson’s radio 1 show. Without doubt one to watch. Now if we could only get Pedestrian and Gang Colours to collaborate…
