a.k.a. Cockenzie Power Station if this picture is to be believed.
I’m actually feeling really rough today; was out last night for the opening night of the festival and I got very merry. Took the Holga too – so hopefully after I get the photos processed they’ll be good enough for the blog. Lots of famous comedians were spotted – Jack Whitehall, Jim Jeffries, Noel Fielding and…Caroline Rhea a.k.a. Aunt Hilda from Sabrina The Teenage Witch who we all proceeded to call Aunt Zelda until she corrected us hahahaha. Watch this space for that photo.
“And this time, give it to me easy.
And let me try with pleasured hands.
To take you in the sun to promised lands.”
‘Tobacco Road’ sounded spectacular at the end of the new episode of Mad Men. It got me in the mood for more 60s/70s tracks I love. I hope you love them too. Plus Lulu‘s Scottish so up ye!
Been meaning to post about Big Boi for a while because the more I hear Shutterbug the more I think it’s a fecking groundbreaking sound! He also pops up on Janelle Monáe‘s sassy ‘Tightrope’. Grum‘s album has also been getting a lot of plays on my iPod recently and I’ve attached the splendidly-soporific standout ‘Want U’ so check it oot! I’ve sandwhiched these 3 gems with 2 tracks I heard on TV (well…I say TV…I really mean what I’ve torrented) one of which was the M.I.A. track ‘Space’ which was featured at the end of the latest Entourage right when Vince jumps out the plane; the second of which (is actually the first track here) is the best song I’ve heard used on a TV show and was featured on True Blood when Bill goes to the strip club and Massive Attack‘s ‘Paradise Circus’ is playing while he’s watching a Miley Cyrus-look-a-like work the pole. The hand-claps are key. Absolute prize of a track.
Been really busy moving into my new flat and hence have been cracking out the oldies while unpacking! ‘Coffee And TV’ is arguably my favourite song ever. That song speaks to my soul. If ‘Jessie’s Girl’ doesn’t make you attempt an 80s-style power-pop harmony then you’re dead to me. Finally, this amazing XXXChange remix of his own production is what this song should have been.
Saw Kick-Ass yesterday and it blew me away. Highly recommended. There’s a scene is it where Hit-Girl blasts her way down a hallway full of guys with bazookas, and then Joan Jett booms in amidst the utter chaos. Genius.
The internet is a fast moving beast, so the streaming MP3s that are posted may not work after a while due to them being taken down. And since I can't be arsed uploading them all again it's tough shite. I'll always post a link to a downloadable MP3 though. As always, if you like what you hear - away and buy it eh!
p.s. if I've put up a song you'd rather not see here then let me know, you can email me here
