a.k.a. Cockenzie Power Station if this picture is to be believed.
I’m actually feeling really rough today; was out last night for the opening night of the festival and I got very merry. Took the Holga too – so hopefully after I get the photos processed they’ll be good enough for the blog. Lots of famous comedians were spotted – Jack Whitehall, Jim Jeffries, Noel Fielding and…Caroline Rhea a.k.a. Aunt Hilda from Sabrina The Teenage Witch who we all proceeded to call Aunt Zelda until she corrected us hahahaha. Watch this space for that photo.
Probably my favourite Led Zeppelin song just for the way he sings that line; it’s impossible not to mouth it while big Bobby Plant howls the fuck out of it! I’d recommend A Single Man for all you film buffs. It’s one of those films that seems better in retrospect. Every scene looks like a painting. ‘Green Onions’ and ‘Stormy Weather’ were both featured as well and brought back memories of me and my friends listening to Green Onions playing Final Fantasy VII when I was like 14 hahahaloveit.
Been meaning to post about Big Boi for a while because the more I hear Shutterbug the more I think it’s a fecking groundbreaking sound! He also pops up on Janelle Monáe‘s sassy ‘Tightrope’. Grum‘s album has also been getting a lot of plays on my iPod recently and I’ve attached the splendidly-soporific standout ‘Want U’ so check it oot! I’ve sandwhiched these 3 gems with 2 tracks I heard on TV (well…I say TV…I really mean what I’ve torrented) one of which was the M.I.A. track ‘Space’ which was featured at the end of the latest Entourage right when Vince jumps out the plane; the second of which (is actually the first track here) is the best song I’ve heard used on a TV show and was featured on True Blood when Bill goes to the strip club and Massive Attack‘s ‘Paradise Circus’ is playing while he’s watching a Miley Cyrus-look-a-like work the pole. The hand-claps are key. Absolute prize of a track.
Saw Kick-Ass yesterday and it blew me away. Highly recommended. There’s a scene is it where Hit-Girl blasts her way down a hallway full of guys with bazookas, and then Joan Jett booms in amidst the utter chaos. Genius.
This is Hostage. He’s a fan of the sausage…ahahha I totally meant the food. Saw him blitz Cabaret Voltaire on Friday and, being an absolute gentleman, he’s only gone and emailed me 3 of his newest tracks (all in glorious 320kbps!!). He must’ve saw me in the crowd – I was wearing the “Hi Hostage, Please Email Me 3 Bangers, KTHXBAI” t-shirt… and what do you know, it worked.
Recovering from a blinding hangover so I’ll make this brief(ish). Wee selection of the tunes I’ve been digging the most recently. Can’t believe I hadn’t heard this Dusty Kid track til a few days ago. Kicks in big time at around the 2-minute mark. Also new 80kidz with Lovefoxxx from CSS – easily the best thing either has done for a while – excited for the 80kidz album. Was sent this Russ Chimes remix and must say he’s not put a foot wrong lately. Finally, one of the guys that runs the Killer Kitsch club night at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh (and Glasgow) also does remixes and discovered this prize of a remix he did for Glasgow band Haight Ashbury. Fans of said Chimes and Fred Falke should enjoy.
The internet is a fast moving beast, so the streaming MP3s that are posted may not work after a while due to them being taken down. And since I can't be arsed uploading them all again it's tough shite. I'll always post a link to a downloadable MP3 though. As always, if you like what you hear - away and buy it eh!
p.s. if I've put up a song you'd rather not see here then let me know, you can email me here
