Saw Jack Beats on Friday there and they (or should I say he – it was one guy, I thought Jack Beats were two people???) tore the fucking roof off the Cabaret Voltaire. Was rammed and sweaty and pushy but the beats were glorious. The one that I lost my shit for was SonicC. I’d never heard it before but it completely blew my mind. So after ID-ing the track (thanks Erol Alkan Forum) I’ve played it to death. I also love Kissy‘s version which is a lot more playful.
When Jack Beats “dropped the bassline” the place went mental – I think I got about 4 elbows to the windpipe. The last two tracks I’m posting are just big bangers that deserve to be played at full volume. First is RipTidE who I’ve posted about before – his track Fk Me is huge and sexy and kinda sounds like Santa farting and you should download it immediately. Second is the excellent Para One remix of Boys Noize which I’d only first heard a couple of days ago.
So here it is as promised – the Boys Noize debriefing. Before you start though, click on ‘Click To Play All Audio Posts‘ at the bottom of the screen. Wow. How does that feel? Feeling woozy yet? Yeah thats exactly what my brain sounded like as I was trying to get to sleep after seeing Boysy Noizey! We’d had it planned for a while that we’d go full NEONRAVE stylee, but that didn’t prepare us for when we got into the club. Two minutes after we arrived (literally in the cloak queue) we got asked “GOAT ENNY PULZ MATE?” haha. To be fair, we did look like a bunch of pill-popping eck-heads LMAO!
He played a cracking set, sprinkled with tracks from his new album ‘Power‘ and ‘Oi Oi Oi‘, as well as the odd remix. My favourite was when he played ‘Jeffer’. Me + my crewz all attempted the crazy dancing seen in the fan-made video. Best drop of the night for me though was when the Soulwax remix of ‘Mind Dimension‘ landed. I think I almost exploded. I’d say the biggest cheer of the night was for ‘My Moon My Man‘.
Yeah, thats him in the picture. It’s quite far away eh. We partied til about 4am (Boys Noize finished about 3am) bustin-a-groove to my main man Hostage then left soon after.
BTW Kid Alex is Boys Noize. Alter ego. Three men and a little ego. NapolEgo dynamite. Eternal sunshine of the spotless ego. Ego Vs. Kramer. Big ego in little china. Also, I’ve heard ‘Power’. Good stuff. Very good stuff.
“I say you the fuckin best you the fuckin best you the fuckin best you the fuckin best you the fuckin best i eva had best i eva had best i eva had I say you the fuckin..” Genius
Yeah, you guessed it. Scottish Friction regular Boys Noize.
..And I’m not gonna be there. Instead of smashing shit up I’ll just let The Proxy completely annihilate this Boys Noize track… in the best way possible of course. It’s not really payback at all, is it. It’s just making me even more jealous.
This Punks Jump Up remix is a cracker. I’d say this and the JUPITER remix of Chew Lips (another Scottish Friction favourite) are the best remixes I’ve heard for, ooh at least a week, which is like a year in blogtime. Plus they sound nice played one after the other
I’ve been to T in the Park twice now (2006/07) and each time was fantastic. Think it only rained a couple of times. Thats me on the left incase you’re wondering – looking like a twat in my Kamikaze bandana and Devo t-shirt hahaha. I don’t care. Look at our faces. We’re practically glowing. Good beer to man ratio. Great weekend.
So excited about the new Jay Reatard album. I think I worn out Blood Visions within a week of first hearing it. I even started a Jay Reatard myspace page with my favourite song of his at the time because I wanted to add it to my myspace profile but nobody had it! Hahahhaa. How sad is that. I’ve not been on my myspace for aaages. 6,222 plays though! RESULT! Anyway, I really like this new song of his.
Before I forget I got a great email from the Polaris Music Prize-nominatedElephant Stone. I gave their song ‘I Am Blind’ a listen and I think it’s great. T’otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it. If you like it, apparently the album’s streaming at the Indiecater website.
Bassline at the start sounds a bit like Jackie Wilson‘s ‘Higher & Higher’ eh? And that song reminds me of the end scene in ‘Death To Smoochy‘. You have to see that film. Hilarious.
ZOMFG! Just announced that Boys Noize will be playing City Nightclub on 28th August. Can you believe it??! I only saw him last month! Got my ticket earlier! GIRFUY! Sent out a heowge feeler text to see who was up for it and everybody that has replied so far has been a “FUCK YES!”. This is gonna be such a good festival. Know what else? Clubs don’t shut til 5am during the festival!! I think I need to change my knickers.
Fuck knows why but this song was in my head all day and I didn’t even know who it was by. I remembered it was from a comedy film I’d just watched but I couldn’t place it. I googled the lyrics I could vaguely remember and BANG! Herpes. Just joshing. It was Dumb and Dumber and the song was ‘The Rain, The Park & Other Things’ by The Cowsills. Big in ’67.
I wasn’t sure about the new Calvin-Harris-produced-Chrome-featuring-brand-spanking-new-never-been-heard-before-world-exclusive (I might’ve taken some artistic license there) Dizzee Rascal single ‘Holiday’ when I first heard it. And now I hear you cry? I can’t get enough. Think its because the quality of the rips out there were quite poor. I acquired (LOL) a better version and, I won’t lie, I’ve played the shit out of the little sunny fucker. I haven’t heard it in the club setting yet, but I can imagine from 2.45 onwards all hell breaks loose.
This Don Diablo remix is also very good. This man has cranked out some absolutely storming remixes and its no wonder why he’s one of the most blogged about DJs around! p.s. Check that bass!
I’ve been so busy lately I’ve not had a chance to update this but I’ll give it a go. I saw Brodinski last Friday at Sugarbeat!!! He played an absolute stormer. I was supoosed to meet my flatemate there but he eventually couldn’t get in due to his friend being gloriously inebriated (i.e. steamin’!). Nevermind though, the night had a turn up for the books when I met a couple of old/new friends and had a total blast. I think I may have found new gig buddies. Oh yeah, and he dropped this bomb…
Complete change of tone for Bibio. This summery pluckfest (and his album for that matter) has been hogging my eardrums this week. Lovers’ Carvings hooked me within the first 5 seconds.
This Don Diablo remix of Frankmusik‘s ‘Confusion Girl’ is just a really great remix/rework of a so-so song. Kind of like that Duke Dumont remix (read: total annihilation) of Lily Allen‘s ‘The Fear’.
Finally, apart from Bibio, the Cryptonites‘ ‘Night Drive Mixtape’ has been on basically non-stop. Really really good mix and exactly my kind of taste at this very moment!! I’ve taken the liberty of posting a couple of tracks from the mixtape because they’re very good.

“Goethe’s final words: ‘More light’. Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that’s been our unifying cry: ‘More light’. Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlelight. Neon. Incandescent. Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier’s field. Little tiny flashlights for those books we read under the covers when we’re supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and candles. Light is metaphor.” Chris Stevens, Northern Exposure (1990)
I’m at that stage with La Roux‘s catchy-as-fuck song ‘Bulletproof’ where I’m totally in love with it. I’ve not heard it too much. But at the same time I’ve not heard it enough. In some pictures I quite fancy her too.
What actually triggered this post in the first place though was when I listened to the Just A Band remix. Christ it has everything I want from a remix. Starts off familiar then just totally smashes you over the head with a dirty great fucking tyrannosaurus beat! Kinda reminds me of the Boys Noize remix of Happy Up Here actually. Anyway, this remix has just shot into my top 10 of the year so far. High praise indeed!! Do you agree?
Got this Busy P remix from Too Many Sebastians earlier. Have to say that blog is amazing. If you haven’t already – check it out. Everything they post is my kind of music. Makes me jealous actually hahaha!
Well, I did it. Or should I say, we did it. Me and big PCJ saw 2 bands in one night in 2 different cities. The Horrors were first up at King tut’s in Glasgow. They put on a pretty good show, and I’m glad I got to see them play ‘Sea Within A Sea’. We spent a lot of the time staring at/laughing/slagging the bassist/keyboardist (pictured in the black+white stripey t-shirt below) though, because he was doing this fucked up little dance that you’d have done in the 80s that just looked weird. I was half expecting Simon Le Bon to jump out. He did look the part though, I’ll give him that.
(The Horrors, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, May 29th)
The second gig of the night was the best. Boys Noize at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. By the time we got off the train from Glasgow, and into the club Boys Noize had already started. He played the best DJ set I’ve ever heard, the crowd were going absolutely dogshit and the sweat was pouring off everyone! I loved it when they kept turning all the lights out and ramping up the smoke-machine, I swear you could barely see the hand in front of your face. By the time I came out (mega 3-hour set!!) I was wetter than Cytherea – the best sign of a great night out.

The internet is a fast moving beast, so the streaming MP3s that are posted may not work after a while due to them being taken down. And since I can't be arsed uploading them all again it's tough shite. I'll always post a link to a downloadable MP3 though. As always, if you like what you hear - away and buy it eh!
p.s. if I've put up a song you'd rather not see here then let me know, you can email me here
