Late Romance

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I Lady Gaga. There, I said it. Totally avoided her for ages but about a month ago when I heard ‘Bad Romance‘ I had to hear more. Very talented lady. Anyway, here’s Grum’s ace remix – much better than the Hercules & Love Affair remix in my opinion. Thanks to Futuristic Silence for this gem of a Gonzales remix. Saxy. Finally is the Joakim remix of Friendly Fires which stood out when I first heard Annie Mac play it a few weeks ago.

It Wasn’t A Date. It WAS A Date!

I’ve had this U’s & I’s and Lullabies mixtape on repeat all day. I’m really impressed. Primary 1 is Joe Flory, a 24-yr olf half-Norweigan signed to Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. It’s all amazing but I have highlighted my favourites. The Aphex Twin/Zombies mix is fucking inspired.

Boys Noize + The Horrors in One Night Bonanzarama!!!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Well, I did it. Or should I say, we did it. Me and big PCJ saw 2 bands in one night in 2 different cities. The Horrors were first up at King tut’s in Glasgow. They put on a pretty good show, and I’m glad I got to see them play ‘Sea Within A Sea’. We spent a lot of the time staring at/laughing/slagging the bassist/keyboardist (pictured in the black+white stripey t-shirt below) though, because he was doing this fucked up little dance that you’d have done in the 80s that just looked weird. I was half expecting Simon Le Bon to jump out. He did look the part though, I’ll give him that.

(The Horrors, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, May 29th)

The second gig of the night was the best. Boys Noize at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. By the time we got off the train from Glasgow, and into the club Boys Noize had already started. He played the best DJ set I’ve ever heard, the crowd were going absolutely dogshit and the sweat was pouring off everyone! I loved it when they kept turning all the lights out and ramping up the smoke-machine, I swear you could barely see the hand in front of your face. By the time I came out (mega 3-hour set!!) I was wetter than Cytherea – the best sign of a great night out.
