Saw Phoenix at the Glasgow Arches on Sunday just there. Sounded awesome live, but the crowd really didn’t seem up for it. It was quite disappointing actually. I went with my bro and an altbro, expecting it to be really jumpy – but it wasn’t. I dunno if it was because it was a Sunday and people didn’t want to go wild because they had work in the morning or what, but it was a total fucking buzzkill. Worse, it was like the crowd had never heard of ‘Too Young‘ (my fave Phoenix song) or any tunes pre-Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix for that matter.

Enough of the rant FFS eh! Ok back to la choonage. Heard Sleigh Bells for the first time the other day and was kinda blown away – especially by this song. Sleigh Bells are a boy-girl duo who make a fucking glorious racket and I could see them going down a storm live – plus the singer is FIIIIT! Next is Juiceboxxx who apparently recorded this in one take. Anything with Javelin attached will at some point be posted by me – cos I’m obsessed. Slinky blue-eyed soul from Mayer Hawthorne puts a smile on my faces.

The Tom Deluxx remix is another stormer! If I were to ever remix a song, I’d hope it would come out sounding like this Shoes remix – man when that beat drops it DROPS! Naaam Sayyyin??! Got that from LA Friendly. I should rename this post ‘Fucking Bangers To Bop To‘, especially after these 4 eardrum grenades! Kish from Futuristic Silence has awesome taste, and knows a tyrannosaurus beat when she hears it. You can thank her, then, for bringing to your attention this John Roman remix of Felix Cartal.

I actually saw Freeland when I was down in Brighton a few months ago for the Great Escape festival. I’ll be honest – I wasn’t impressed! They came on like Kajagoogoo, but with worse hairdos! HAHA! Joke. GRUM can also do no wrong, his remix of ‘Borderline’ is impressive (altogether now “DO YOU FEEL ME?“) but he really shines on his own track Heartbeats. Heartbeats (like VEGA’s ‘No Reasons‘) will probably be in my year-end top 10 song list. Lastly, Lifelike is a brutha from another mutha who hasn’t slipped up at all recently. Wind down the end of this post with the 80s-indebted ‘Radio 84′ – fuck me it’s even in the title.

If you haven’t seen Miles Fisher by now then WTFF (thats fucking fuck) have you been?! He not only pulled off a fucker of a Tom Cruise impression, but then went and topped it with this hilarious Christian Bale/Talking Heads tribute. Can you tell I love a good impressionist? Aaanyway, the good looking fucker that he is also sings and writes music. The song I’ve posted is actually great and I got a shock. Reminds me of Brendan Benson’s solo work actually – which is a very very good thing. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves – apparently he’s gonna be appearing in the new season of Mad Men. Let’s see if he tops Don Draper in the cool stakes.
